"He barely had any cybernetic enhancements"[]

Description[]

Samurai is a melee class with a lot of utility for a super. It has multiple ways to avoid damage, and has potent combos. While it can be obtained with any alignment, the ultra, Ronin, requires orderly. It's probably the best super class if you're trying to maybe be just a bit stronger and you want to test the waters of Rogue Lineage. Samurai is basically an ultra because of how good it is in combat. Its suggested to go this class if you're new to the game.

How to Obtain[]

  • Max out Warrior and Lord's Training (Sword Skills)
  • Talk to Gurn at Sentinel (Note: if you get 1 skill of subclass blacksmith, you won't be able to get samurai. For some dumb reason it favors blacksmith more. This is guaranteed, so you will have to wipe if you have gotten even a single blacksmith skill if you want Samurai/Ronin).
  • Obtain the first skill, then get more EXP with the katana. Your EXP with the sword does not count towards the other skills. (18 Zombie Scrooms/4.5 waves of Zombie Scrooms/31 Shriekers/23 Evil Eyes.)
  • Pay 125 for each skill, with 3 skills total (475 Silver for all skills + katana).

You have to be neutral or orderly, and the ultra, Ronin, is orderly.

Note: You can't go max Super Blacksmith then go Samurai.

Way of the Katana[]

The Katana is a unique weapon among the others in Gaia. The usage of it varies greatly from that of other weapons. (by that we mean it nullifies the Sword, Spear, and Dagger) Swinging as fast as Dagger, slightly longer range with more efficiency than Spear and well... A direct upgrade from Sword.

  • Raw power: The katana boasts good range, over average attack speed and average damage.
  • Sheath: The katana is stored at the side of the user and take a second to pull out/put away. All skills (excluding Blade Flash if sheathed) will unsheathe the Katana when selected if not previously unsheathed, leaving the user vulnerable and unable to use most actions beside walking.
  • Swing combo: Unlike regular swords, the katana boast a 4 hit combo. Rather unique to the weapon, swing combo timer (when you revert to the first hit) is very short. If the swings are not followed in quick succession, after a small delay in which you cannot swing, the combo revert to the 1st swing.
  • Heavy attack: While the heavy attack is similar to that of a regular sword, it differs in one aspect: you can redirect your aiming any time during the charge up animation, unlike sword, which is locked to the direction it started it. It also holds one of the best M2 cooldowns, allowing for an almost infinite M2 chain.
  • Unique moveset: None of the sword actives carry over to a Katana, which possesses its own set of skills.

Strengths[]

  • High Damage: Arguably the best damage output out of all the supers.
  • High Speed: Very fast weapon attack speed, comparable to daggers. In addition to the huge amount of damage you deal, you can become unstoppable.
  • Decent Utility: Very good skills for a super. Flowing Counter is basically Tempest Soul on steroids, and a projectile is always a good thing to have.
  • Unexpected: Enemies who aren't paying close enough attention may not notice the startup animation on Blade Flash, and may not defend themselves in time. This damages them and stuns them momentarily, which can be followed up with a combo.
  • Neutral: Can be bought with any alignment, but Ronin is orderly.

Weaknesses[]

  • Very Expensive: Considering you need Lords Training and Warrior before this, this class costs 680 silver to get, 780 including the katana.
  • Grindy: Requires 12 Zombie Scrooms to unlock, then an additional 16 to max due to the high damage of the Katana.
  • Straightfoward Gameplan: Powerful combos don't solve every problem. Smart players might deduce your simple rushdown and counter it with multiple options: better armor, using spells to keep you away, breaking your legs, etc. This can be mitigated somewhat with the use of Flowing Counter, but it doesn't solve it fully.
  • Mana/Curse Shield: Though powerful, none of its moves are able to break through mana or curse shield. Due to the time you have to spend sheathing the Katana, it's way harder to mana punch a mage too.
  • Vulnerable To Rushdowns: Attacking a Samurai with their weapon sheathed will give a huge advantage in battle, because of how long it takes for them to unsheathe the katana. But you are able to unsheathe your weapon 0.5 seconds more faster with the ultra class. (Which is Ronin)
  • Can't combo with spells: Most non samurais don't know this, but when drawing or sheathing, you can't charge mana, and mana charging is stopped, if it is being charged. Because of this, samurais are very limited when using spells effectively, one fine but confusing spell they can use is snap Velo, because you can start drawing your sword during the snap.
  • Mages: Although Flowing Counter is capable of deflecting spells, it does not reflect the damage and the effect of said spell. Oftentimes, assaulting a Samurai with lots of spells will cause them to back off.

Combos[]

NOTE: If you time it right, by turning 90-180 degrees you can get 2 hits of triple slash but not have the last slash hit. This allows for a pseudo light piercer and you can extend with another M1 combo string.

  • M1 (x3) -> Triple Slash
  • Blade Flash -> M1 (x3) -> Triple Slash -> M2
  • M1 (x3) -> Blade Flash -> Triple Slash -> M2
  • M1 (x3) -> Triple Slash -> Dash Forward And Use Blade Flash -> M1 (x4)
  • M1 (x3) -> Triple Slash -> Dash Forward -> M1 (x3) M2
  • M1 (x3) -> Triple Slash -> M2 -> Quickly Blade Flash -> Directly after they get up M2
  • Spamming M2 (surprisingly effective because most people are not use to perfect blocking a katana)

Notes[]

  • While Gurn is the Super Blacksmith trainer, he is also the Super Samurai trainer.
  • If you don't have enough EXP, Gurn says: "Hmm... I think you need a little more practice."
  • You can not do M1s or M2s while in the Blade Flash animation. You can however use Blade Flash while dashing with Dash Mastery passive.
  • You can cancel Flowing Counter by using Triple Slash or Blade Flash.
  • If you are going for Ronin, you should consider getting the Knight Lord's Outfit for the time being if you feel unsafe without a health boost. If you can afford to be squishy, it is recommended to go for Assassin armor for +5 speed.
  • Technically, Gurn is a hybrid, as he is both a Samurai and a Super Blacksmith.
  • Drawing your sword while running results in an anime-cutscene type of coolness.
  • The process of sheathing is halted by things such as charging mana or /e bow.
  • The range on skills with the katana is very far for where the sword actually is, same with the M2.
  • The katana has the most range of every basic weapon, even more than spear.
  • Very deadly when combined with Haseldan or Dinakeri.
